ASTROgram: AAPM, ASTRO to present safety symposium

AAPM and ASTRO are hosting Safety in Radiation Therapy - A Call to Action, June 24-25. This conference is aimed to inform all members of the treatment team, as well as manufacturers and regulators, on ways to improve the safety and quality of radiation administered to patients. The topics include examining the current treatment process to identify and implement safety improvements; identifying methods to provide operators with greater knowledge and control over the radiation delivery process; working with vendors to provide better fail-safe mechanisms to protect against human error and equipment malfunction; and reviewing radiation therapy team member responsibilities to improve communication, teamwork and safety. This meeting is being presented in cooperation with AAMD, ABRF, ACMP, ACR, ASRT, CRCPD, NPSF and SROA. Additional details are available at www.aapm.org/meetings/2010SRT
