ASTROnews: Drs. Larson, McBride awarded 2010 Gold Medal
David Larson, M.D., Ph.D., FASTRO, and William McBride, D.Sc., Ph.D., were selected as the 2010 recipients of the ASTRO Gold Medal. They will be presented with this honor at the Awards Ceremony during ASTRO’s 52nd Annual Meeting in San Diego, which is being held October 31 through November 4, 2010.
The Gold Medal is the highest honor that ASTRO bestows. It is awarded to distinguished members who have made outstanding contributions to the field of radiation oncology, including research, clinical care, teaching and service. Recipients are drawn from any of the scientific disciplines represented by the members of the Society.
Dr. Larson is vice chair of the University of California, San Francisco, Department of Radiation Oncology. A past president of ASTRO, he has been a member for 25 years and has served on the History Committee and the Gold Medal Awards Committee. He also served on the History Committee Working Committee, which was charged with compiling and editing the ASTRO 50th anniversary book.
Dr. McBride is a professor and vice-chair of research for the UCLA Department of Radiation Oncology. A former ASTRO Board of Directors member, he has been an ASTRO member for 20 years, during which time he has served on the Annual Meeting and Program Committee, the Radiation and Cancer Biology Committee, the Education Committee, the Nominating Committee and the NIH Subcommittee.
