Press Release: W. Robert Lee named inaugural editor of Practical Radiation Oncology
Fairfax, Va., August 5, 2010 - W. Robert Lee, M.D., M.Ed., has been named the inaugural editor of ASTRO’s new journal Practical Radiation Oncology. Dr. Lee was selected by a 12-person editor selection task and made up of a cross section of the field of radiation oncology. His appointment was then confirmed by the ASTRO Board of Directors.
PRO will debut its first issue in early 2011 with a mission to improve the quality of radiation oncology practice. It will be a natural complement to the Society's primary research journal, the International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics (also called the Red Journal), as a clinical and practice journal. A print and online subscription will be included in the dues for all Active, Allied and International members.
"Practical Radiation Oncology is really going to be a great journal with practical applications for the entire radiation oncology community," Anthony L. Zietman, M.D., ASTRO president and a senior editor of PRO, said. "I have been impressed with Robert’s vision and leadership for PRO. I know he will do a fantastic job making this journal the go-to read for practical and relevant advice for everyone in radiation oncology practice."
Dr. Lee is professor in the department of radiation oncology and program director of the Radiation Oncology Training Program at Duke University in Durham, N.C. He also is an associate professor of urology at Duke. Dr. Lee received a Bachelor of Science in chemistry from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., and his M.D. from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Va. He also holds an M.D. in epidemiology from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C., and a M.Ed., in adult education from Penn State University in University Park, Pa.
Dr. Lee brings substantial writing, editing and reviewing of scholarly work experience to this new role. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers and invited editorials in a wide variety of journals and is a member of the American Journal of Clinical Oncology and Brachytherapy editorial boards. He is also an ad hoc reviewer for many journals including the Lancet, Journal of Clinical Oncology, International Journal of Radiation Oncology*Biology*Physics, Cancer, Journal of Urology and Urology.
