Craig Collie, M.D., has joined the staff of Horizon Medical Center as a radiation oncologist with Tennessee Oncology in the Sarah Cancer Cannon Center at Natchez Medical Park in Dickson, Tenn. Dr. Collie previously practiced as a radiation oncologist with Florida Radiation Oncology Group in Jacksonville Beach, Fla.
Geetha Narasimhan, M.D., has joined Rush-Riverside Cancer Institute in Bourbonnais, Ill., as a radiation oncologist. Dr. Narasimhan previously practiced at Saint James Hospital and Health Centers Comprehensive Cancer Institute in Olympia Fields, Ill., and at Saint Anthony Medical Center in Crown Point, Ind.

Sandra Vermeulen, M.D., of Swedish Cancer Institute and Northwest Hospital, both in Seattle, was quoted in a January 2, 2010, (Culpeper, Va.) Star-Exponent story on the use of CyberKnife to treat pancreatic cancer.
In a January 4, 2010, (Fort Myers, Fla.) News-Press article on treatments for ductal carcinoma in situ, Constantine Mantz, M.D., of 21st Century Oncology in Ft. Myers, Fla., was quoted as saying a lumpectomy with radiation is almost as effective as a mastectomy and may be a better therapy for patients because “Not only is the cosmetic outcome good to excellent, the patient is cured of the DCIS.”
Jeffrey Long, M.D., of Mary Bird Cancer Center at Terrebonne General Medical Center in Houma, La., has published a book titled, “Evidence of the Afterlife,” in which Dr. Long makes a case for life after death by compiling the stories of 1,600 people who have gone through near death experiences. Dr. Long was interviewed by Time magazine regarding the book on January 22, 2010, and was interviewed by Meredith Viera on The Today Show on January 20, 2010.
Robert Ivker, D.O., of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in Newark, N.J., was mentioned in a January 30, 2010, The New York Times article on a fund he started for New York-area Holocaust survivors. Through donations to the fund, Holocaust survivors receive grants for living expenses.

Aaron Spalding, M.D., Ph.D., of Norton Cancer Radiation Center in Louisville, Ky., was quoted in an article on 89.3 WFLP in Louisville, Ky., on the ground breaking for a new $28 million radiation therapy center at Norton Cancer Institute. The facility is scheduled to be completed in July 2011.
