The University of Florida Proton Therapy Insitute (UFPTI) is excited to announce two new fellowships in proton therapy. One position will focus on pediatric proton therapy while the other will involve proton therapy for adult patients. This will be a 12-month program which can be renewed for one more year with mutual consensus of the program and the fellow. Both fellowships will center on developing clinical expertise in proton therapy, with the opportunity to engage in research. It is expected the fellow will pursue at least one project in clinical, translational or laboratory research. The primary clinical training will focus on the application of proton therapy to treat malignant tumors. In pediatrics, this will include primary central nervous system tumors, sarcomas, and other solid tumors adjacent to critical radiosensitive organs. In adults, prostate cancern, lung cancer, gastrointestinal malignancies, head and neck malignancies and central nervous system tumors will be the focus, and the experience in rare tumors particularly suited for protons also expected. Management of benign unresectable tumors of the central nervous system will be addressed in both the pediatric and adult patients. In addition to 3 proton gantries and a fixed beam, the University of Florida Proton Institute houses state of the art linear accelerators for IMRT, IGRT, and photon radiosurgery. The fellowship will include instruction on when these tools may be utilized in a way that complements proton therapy. The University of Florida Proton Institute is one of the busiest proton centers in the world and treats over 100 patients daily with a broad range of diagnoses. Active research includes over a dozen institutional clinical trials as well as cooperative trials with COG, POETIC, and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. This provides a unique opportunity to develop clinical skills in a growing and novel high-technology field. We welcome applications for these positions.
